The key roles and responsibilities of the Gender and Disability Mainstreaming Lead position appear to include: 

  • Conducting literature reviews on gender, youth, and persons with disabilities approaches in the Ethiopian context. 
  • Meeting with relevant organisations like the Union of disabled persons. 
  • Conducting needs and demand analysis for gender, youth, and disability approaches within the project structures. 
  • Developing project policies on integrating gender, youth, and disability approaches. 
  • Organizing and conducting workshops to sensitize staff and students on gender mainstreaming and inclusion of youth and persons with disabilities.

Duties and responsibilities as the Focal Person for the EU-Funded Strengthening Decentralized Disaster Risk Reduction Management Project at Bahir Dar University: 

  • Develop and implement action plans aligned with project goals 
  • Monitor and evaluate project activities to ensure target achievement 
  • Manage project budgets and ensure compliance with EU funding requirements 
  • Identifying research thematic areas and developing proposal calls 
  • Facilitate proposal development and presentations to the supervisory board 
  • Supervise research teams, ensuring adherence to scientific methodologies

Research Interests and Experience 

My research interests and experience span a wide range of topics crucial to development and disaster management. I am deeply engaged in the study of livelihoods, food, and nutrition security, focusing on how these factors interrelate and impact community resilience. I have explored the social dynamics and developments that shape communities, paying particular attention to the socio-economic dimensions of disasters and how these events affect different populations. Gender issues are a significant focus of my work, especially regarding women and drought risk, highlighting the unique challenges and resilience strategies of women in the face of environmental stressors. My research also emphasizes community participation and community-based disaster risk management, advocating for inclusive approaches to disaster preparedness and response. Additionally, I am dedicated to investigating climate change adaptation and environmental issues, aiming to contribute to sustainable solutions for vulnerable communities
