GIS Department

Geographic information system (GIS) is one of the core departments of the center. GIS connects data to a map, integrating location data with descriptive information. It helps users understand patterns, trends, relationships and geographic context, and by doing so, the technology unlocks countless insights about the Earth and our relationship to it. Its benefits also include improved communication and efficiency as well as better management and decision making. In general, GIS is a powerful tool not only because it presents information to better understand our ever-changing world, it also gives us the keys to make informed decisions and strategic solutions. GIS is powering solutions to global challenges. GIS is at the heart of some of society’s most essential functions including education. This is the very reason for the establishment of the center itself.
