Biography
Dereje Wonde is an Ethiopian sociologist specializing in global health and infection. He holds a BA and MA in Sociology from the University of Gondar and Addis Ababa University, respectively, and earned his PhD in Global Health from Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). Dereje's research focuses on the intersection of scabies and daily life in the Debre Elias district of Amhara Region, Ethiopia. His doctoral research examines the socio-economic and cultural factors influencing scabies, aiming to understand the lived experiences of affected individuals and community perceptions. In addition to his research, Dereje has contributed to various publications, including studies on health-seeking behaviors and the management of chronic illnesses in Ethiopia. Currently, Dereje serves as an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia. He has previously held academic positions at Jimma University and has been involved in research projects addressing severe stigmatizing skin diseases in Eastern and Southern Africa. Dereje is also active on social media platforms, sharing insights related to his research and professional activities.
