Short Biography
Biresaw Demelash Abera obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology and Food Process Engineering from Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia, in 2012, and his Master’s degree in Food Engineering from the University of Salerno, Italy, in 2017. His MSc research focused on the extraction of valuable compounds from microalgae using pulsed electric field and high-pressure homogenization techniques. He completed his PhD in Food Engineering and Biotechnology in 2021 at the University of Bolzano-Bozen (Sensing Technologies Laboratory), Italy. His doctoral research centered on the development of advanced biosensors modified with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) for the detection of food toxicants, including mycotoxins (aflatoxin M1 in milk and ochratoxin A in grapes and wine), heavy metals in fish, and antibiotic residues in meat and dairy products. He is currently an Associate Professor of Food Process Engineering at the Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. He has published several scientific articles in reputable international journals and continues to contribute to research in food safety, biosensing technologies, and sustainable food processing.
