As part of the LINK Project “Establishing Transformative Learning, Research and Community Outreach and Capacities in Agroecology”, Bahir Dar University (BDU) in partnership with the World Vision Ethiopia (WVE), successfully conducted a two-day training titled “Community-Based Facilitators’ Training to Foster Agroecological Knowledge and Practice in Farmers’ Family Learning Groups (FFLGs).”
The training which was conducted from 23–24 September 2025 at BDU’s Zenzelima Campus brought together 35 participants, including 10 members of the Farmers’ Family Learning Group (FFLG) established under the LINK Project, as well as other farmers from the Mogedel Watershed area. The initiative aimed to enhance environmental resilience, food security, and household income through the promotion of Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) and improved agroecological farming practices.
Participants received hands-on training in FMNR techniques, small-scale poultry production, and improved horticultural practices. The sessions were facilitated by experts from Bahir Dar University and World Vision Ethiopia, including Dr. Habtamu Assaye and Tsehay Azeref from LINK Project, Dr. Hailu Mazengia, veterinary professional from CAES and Amanuel Tesfahun, donor representative and trainer from World Vision Ethiopia, under the overall coordination of Dr. Zerihun Yohannes, the LINK Project Leader.
Through interactive presentations, group discussions, and field demonstrations, farmers strengthened their capacity to implement sustainable land management practices and integrate agroecological principles into their farming systems.
The event also reinforced the strong partnership between Bahir Dar University and World Vision Ethiopia, who continue to collaborate on promoting FMNR, agroecology, and sustainable rural livelihoods across Ethiopia.
