BDU STEM Center organized the 3rd STEM-Girls camp program

The Bahir Dar University STEM Center organized its 3rd STEM-Girls camp program from January 15 to 22, 2018. The training was held at the main campus of the university where dormitories and training facilities were provided for the program. 60 students from grades 9 to 12 of all public and private high schools found in Bahir Dar City attended the training. It was managed by 7 teaching staff pooled from all STEM departments of the university. The training included STEM lab practices, life skill, team-work, field exercises, games with funny approaches of science, site visits related to STEM including the Bahir Dar Maritime Academy and Bahir Dar University College of agriculture and environmental sciences (Nursery site, animal farm …). The STEM-Girls camp is an annual program of the BDU STEM center during the semester break of schools. This year camping program was as usual in a competition form in groups of four named by known Ethiopian female scientists Prof Yalemtsehay Mekonnen, Prof Sosina M. Haile, Dr Segenet Kidane and Dr Debrework Zewdu grouped in four different colors. The camp has competition throughout the whole week and finally the winner of the group, Dr Segenet’s group, received the winners cap from guest of the day, Mr Abiy Menkir, the Director of the University community service office and delegate of the research and community services vice president.
