Humanities Faulty, BDU holds its annual meeting

The meeting focused on two main agenda: reintroducing the faculty’s annual plan and creating a common understanding among the faculty on making sure the new academic year to be peaceful and fruitful.

The dean of the faculty Dr Sefa Meka briefly presented the annual plan of the faculty focusing the major tasks. The presentation was followed by a warm discussion with questions and comments from the staff. In relation to the peaceful teaching learning, it has been reflected that teachers and other staff members shall take their responsibility of contributing their share to a reigning peace and stability in the university. In the meeting, teachers suggested appointing experienced teachers for the new entrants in order to make their first experience in the university more conducive.

In campus security concern has been raised remembering the incidents that happened to the end of the previous academic year. Also, participants suggested creating platform for students to sit around tables for discussion and debates so as to leapfrog the recently recurring stability problems surrounding higher institution at a country level. The discussions will help students be empathetic about each other and avoid potential disagreements that could rise to conflicts.

In the meeting, teachers talked about the necessity and implementation of the working continuous assessment scales both for graduate and undergraduate programs. In this regard, it was informed from the stage that the issue of continuous assessment was a problem already identified at the university level, and it has been worked on for some time now by educationalists. It is understood that the revised continuous assessment criteria will be in place in the current academic year.
