Faculty Holds National Workshop on Language, Culture

BDU:Bahir Dar University Faculty of Humanities has recently conducted the first national workshop on” The Amharic Language and its cultural aspect studies.”
According to the Dean Dr.Seyum Teshome, the objective of the workshop was meant to sensitize research on Amharic Language and its cultural practices, to instill research culture among young researchers, to disseminate knowledge and to bring together researchers and policy makers on a single platform.
In his welcoming speech, The University’s Research and Community Services Vice President Dr.Tesfaye Shiferaw asserted that the outcome of the workshop would be essential input to policy makers and administrators.
He also called on researchers in the area to do their level best to improve issues hampering the growth of the Amharic language and its cultural practices.
Speaking at the same event, The Academic Affairs Vice President of Bahir Dar University Dr. Firew Tegegne announced that the workshop would be a milestone towards making the University the premier research hub on African soil in 2025.
During the function, a total of 27 research papers on folklore, mass media, language education and development, and linguistic were presented to participants.
The workshop was organized by Faculty of Humanities in collaboration with The Vice President Office for Research and Community Services, Bahir Dar Uinversity.
Participants were drawn from Universities, Amhara Mass Media Agency and Teachers’ Colleges of Amhara Region.
