TRAINING OF GRADUATE STUDENTS

I have been serving as a supervisor and examiner in the thesis works of postgraduate students enrolled in the department of chemistry under the inorganic stream at Bahir Dar and Gondar University since 2015. So far, I have advised more than 12 inorganic M.Sc. students in regular and summer programs.

MAJOR PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Reviewing Manuscripts in different International Journals, since 2015.
  • Reviewing Research and Technology Transfer Proposals, since 2015.
  • Reviewed Curriculum, M.Sc. in Physical Chemistry at curriculum workshop on Monday, August 30, 2015 in Wolaita Soddo.

MAJOR RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research interest covers the following areas:

  1. Inorganic Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry: - Design and synthesis of transition metal complexes for
  1. Antimicrobial activity
  2. Anticancer activity

Employing:    a)   Different bioactive ligands

b) Phytochemicals: extracted from indigenous traditionally employed plants and herbs as ligands

c)   Mixing the above two

d)  Newly synthesized ligands with desired properties

The synthesized complexes are subject to in vitro and in vivo biological activity tests

  1. Inorganic and Supramolecular Chemistry:  The design of active molecules/ligands for selective and sensitive recognition/complexation of suitable guests such as metal cations, anions, small neutral molecules and bio-macromolecule. Such as Chelation-induced chemosensing for selective and sensitive recognition of metal ion from aqueous solution/waste water/ and other sources.
  1. Colorimetric Chemosensor
  2. Fluorescent Chemosensor
  3. Ratiometric Fluorescent Chemosensor
  1. Inorganic Green and Structural Chemistry: Green Chemical Synthesis under Solvent-Free Conditions.

Studies on Mechanochemistry: Solid state synthesis and structural investigation of organic and inorganic materials as a new synthesis chemistry, which is a worthwhile click and green approach for existing solution based synthesis.

MAJOR TRAINING PARTICIPATIONS

  • Training of Trainers University Pilot: Transferable Life Skills 2020 January, 2020.
  • Quality Laboratory Management with Spectroscopic Techniques- A hands on Approach: From Simple Analysis to Data Interpretation, March 2018.
  • Nanotechnology for Development (Nano4D): Policy, Ethics, Law and Regulation Master class at University of Gondar, August 2015.
  • HDP (Higher Diploma Program) i.e Professional teacher trainer Diploma, February 2008.
  • Short term Pedagogical trainings, December 2005.

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

synthesis of inorganic materials in solid and/or in the solution state. Have skill of selected analytical techniques and the respective instrumentation for the identification and characterization of organic and inorganic materials and solid-state compounds with an emphasis on both traditional and modern analytical techniques These include traditional analytical techniques such as TLC, AAS, ICP-OES, Molar Conductivity, Magnetic Susceptibility, NMR Spectroscopy, MS, DSC-TGA, UV-Vis, IR, Raman Spectroscopy, X-ray Crystallography, and some modern analytical techniques as well.
