Background of Bahir Dar University

Bahir Dar University (BDU) is one of the leading public higher education institutions in Ethiopia. It was established in 2000 through the merger of two long-standing institutions: the Bahir Dar Polytechnic Institute and the Bahir Dar Teachers’ Training College. Since its establishment, the University has grown into a comprehensive institution offering a wide range of academic programs.

BDU is located in Bahir Dar city, near Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile. Background of Bahir Dar University Library

The Bahir Dar University Library was established to support the academic mission of the University by providing access to quality information resources and professional library services. As the University expanded, the Library system also developed into a network of central and branch libraries distributed across the University’s campuses and colleges.

The BDU Library houses extensive collections of academic resources, including textbooks, reference materials, journals, theses, dissertations, and research publications. In addition to print collections, the Library provides access to digital library resources, such as electronic books, electronic journals, research databases, institutional repositories, and electronic theses and dissertations.

The Library offers a range of services including circulation, reference and research support, user education, and ICT-enabled information services. Well-organized reading spaces and study areas are provided to create a conducive learning and research environment.
