Name: Proffessor Arega Bazezew Berlie

     1. General information

I was born on August 1, 1959 in North Gondar administrative zone, north central Ethiopia. I received B.A. degree in Geography from Addis Ababa University in December 1992. I received my M.A degree in Agricultural Geography in July 2004 in the same university. I received my PhD degree at UNISA in the Department of Geography, Pretoria in May 24, 2014.

  1.  In connection to training activities, I gave the following trainings
  • Two days trainings on SPSS and other software applications for the Amhara Region Women and Youth Affairs from July 11-14, 2014
  • I offered two days trainings for social sciences faculty in relation to research philosophy, research paradigms, and quantitative and qualitative research methods from June 15-16, 2014.
  • I gave trainings in relation with basic research proposal and project development to the same faculty from June 22-23, 2014. 
  • I gave training for social sciences faculty instructors and postgraduate students about SPSS/SATA software application in quantitative data analysis from January 15-18, 2020. 
  • I gave training on action research for primary and secondary teachers in 2017 and 2018. 
  • I gave training at Hargeisa University related to advanced research methods and methods in article writing
  • I gave training at Hargeisa University of Somalialnd related to SPSS and STATA software applications

2. Impacts of Invasive Water Hyacinth on Rural Households’ Livelihoods and Food Security Outcome: The case of Lake Tana, Amhara National Regional State, Ethiopia”. This is funded by CARP of South Africa in 2013. 

3. Human security, vulnerability and social protection: The practice of labor rights and social protection of workers in privatized investments of Amahra Region. Funded by Bahir Dar University in 2015. 

4. Climate change and human induced impact of the agriculture sector in Amhara Region, Ethiopia. Funded by Bahir Dar University, 2023.

  • Pertaining to administrative posts, I served the University as head of the department of Geography and environmental studies for two rounds that are, from 2008- to 2010 and again from 2014 to 2017. 
  • I am also serving as PhD coordinator in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies from 2015 onwards,
