Full Name: Dr. Adem Chanie Ali
Date of Birth: 16-11-1980
Nationality: Ethiopian
Born and raised in Ethiopia, Adem earned his BA and MA from Addis Ababa University, and he completed his PhD in Communication Science at the University of South Africa, graduating in 2017.He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Public Relations and Communication from Bahir Dar University. He has been teaching at Bahir Dar University since 2005. He was a visiting scholar at NLA University College in Kristiansand, Norway, and Linnaeus University in Sweden. Adem is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Hamburg, Germany.
Adem is renowned for his contributions to research, teaching, training, and community service within the Department of Journalism and Communication at Bahir Dar University (BDU) and beyond. For example, his training in media literacy, hate speech, information disorder, and peace has taken place at over 10 universities and 20 high schools, benefiting students, activists, journalists, and media professionals throughout the country. This extensive outreach is a noteworthy showcase of his professional service. Adem has also several media presentations in the regional and national broadcasting outlets in Ethiopia as part of his community outreach services. He held various managerial positions at the university, including department head, program manager, and vice dean of the Faculty of Humanities. Additionally, he has participated in numerous national and international conferences and workshops.
Awards and Honors: He has an international award from Google grant for a collaborative project with Professor Chris Biemann from Hamburg University, Germany.
