Description of the Program:

The Program is designed to produce highly qualified manpower that are capable of studying, conducting scientific research in the field of Folklore. The research works in the field are aimed to give insights for policy makers and practitioners to conserve the incalculable traditional values rich in the social and cultural diversities.  The program also aims to integrate the cultural values with development plans within the multi-ethnic Ethiopian contexts, in particular, and to contribute to the existing theories and academic research in the field and interdisciplinary areas.

English and Amharic

Eligibility criteria:

 The following are admission requirements to the program:


B.A degree preferably in Folklore and Literature or B.A/BED Degree in other related behavioral and social science and humanities disciplines such as Ethiopian Language/s and Literature, Foreign Languages and Literature, Sociology, and Social Anthropology etc.


A grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 and above in the undergraduate program.


Satisfactory performance in a written entrance test administered as part of application process.


Fulfillment of other admission requirements set by Bahir Dar University.


Annual intake:

25 students per section (two sections)

Applicants may be organization-sponsored or self-sponsored. Both the organization-and self-sponsored applicants will pay fee for education and research based on the University’s by-laws.
