Applied Materials and Solar Energy (AMSE) Laboratory

The Applied Materials and Solar Energy (AMSE) Laboratory at Bahir Dar University is a multidisciplinary research laboratory dedicated to advancing applied materials science and solar energy technologies. The laboratory integrates materials processing, advanced characterization, and renewable energy research to develop innovative solutions for sustainable materials and energy technologies.

 

Our research encompasses surface science, nanomaterials, colloids, coatings, and thin-film technologies. In parallel, our solar photovoltaic (PV) research focuses on silicon-based and emerging perovskite solar cells. The PV division also conducts solar resource assessment and photovoltaic potential mapping in Ethiopia, contributing to national renewable energy strategies and science-driven sustainable energy development.

 

Although the AMSE Laboratory primarily focuses on materials science and solar energy, its advanced capabilities in surface processing, characterization, chemical analysis, and electrochemical techniques also provide a strong foundation for biotechnology (including bio-interfaces and antimicrobial study) and other technology-related research.

 

Through research, education, innovation, and collaboration, the AMSE Laboratory aims to play a leading national role in applied materials and solar energy research. The laboratory also supports graduate student training, technology development, and collaboration with industry and international partners, contributing to scientific advancement and sustainable technological development in Ethiopia.
