Bahir Dar University Gender Office
Bahir Dar University’s gender office was established in 2000 E.C named as Females Education Center aspiring to provide all rounded support for female students. Currently, the office directly accountable to the University’s president office. The office has one gender professional head and a gender focal person in each of the three campuses. The office closely works with female academic staff to solve problems that hinder academic performance of female students.
The office has been running the following activities
- Organize tutorial programs for first year female students
- Arrange trainings on life skills, gender awareness RH, academic and non academic skill
- Organize orientation /well come/ programs for first year female students
- Celebrating international women’s day /March 8/ and increase gender awareness of the university community
- Offering advisory support on academic and social matters
- Organizing girls union to support female students.
- Creating a link with organizations working on gender and related issues.
- Conducting research on gender & related issues in collaboration with female academic staff
- Work to minimize sexual harassment and misconducts in the university
