The Faculty of Social Sciences is of one of the academic units of Bahir Dar University established in November 2008 when the former education faculty cease to exist. It is located in the university’s main campus alongside with other colleges, faculties and schools. The faculty runs four undergraduate and three post graduate programs which makes it one of the academic units of the main campus to attract students in each study levels.
As part of the university’s strategic plan, the faculty of social sciences works towards quality education, research and community services. The faculty focuses on quality, excellence, Integrity, transparency, accountability and rule of law. It tries to ensure smooth academic environment, transparent and fast public service and efficient and quality management.
The faculty has very experienced and reputed academic staffs and well established teaching-learning and research experiences. The young generation of the academic staff is also getting improved swiftly in acquainting to the new student cantered methods of teaching, the research agenda and community service. The support staffs are again organized with bright minded team and are working against the inertia of bureaucratic fatigues. Students’ participation in the teaching-learning process is also one of the prides of the faculty. Students participate in arranging and participating in community service and research. Seminars, workshops, panel discussions, memorial ceremonies are being conducted brightly with the active participation of students and some enthusiastic staff members.
The faculty’s very existence and contribution merely relies on the active and passionate efforts of the faculty’s community: students, the academic and support staffs. Being responsible, enthusiastic, and committed will undoubtedly enable the faculty satisfy the need of the university and the needs of the country at large. Finally, the faculty welcomes government and non-government organizations to collaborate in research and community services with staffs and students of the faculty.
