Faculty to launch new programs

SocialBDU: The Faculty of Social Sciences at Bahir Dar University will commence two new programs in the coming academic year according to a curriculum review workshop held here.

During the workshop, draft curriculums of BA in political Sciences and International Relations and MA in Federalism and Local Government Studies were tabled for discussion to spell out areas that needed to be improved before its approval and inclusion among programmes listed to be offered.

Faculty’s Postgraduate Programs,Research and Community Services Coordinator Taye Demise noted that the commencement of the program will help to train human power in the area where high scarcity is exhibited at national level.

According to the University’s Postgraduate Programs Coordinator Abebe Assefa, the findings of the need assessment survey revealed that there is acute shortage of trained expert on the areas of Federalism and Local Government Studies stressing that the opening of the program would contribute to the production of qualified human power who could serve as professional experts and researchers at national and local government organization.

The University’s Academic Programs Coordinator Tigabe Bezie claimed that the launching of the new programs will be an addition to the BDU’s diversification and expansion schemes.

An external evaluator from Addis Ababa University Dr.Kassahun Birhanu gave his input that would improve the draft curriculum.

Participants of the workshop included stakeholders drawn from various government offices, Faculty of Social Sciences Staff and other BDU Staff from different programs.
