PRESIDENT AYALEW, ANRS CABINET MEMBERS LAUD BDU’S GROWTH PLAN
During the official visit and interactive meeting with the University’s top managers, the President of Amhara National Regional State (ANRS), Honourable Ayalew Gobeze called on researchers to focus on areas that responded to the needs of the society such as solar energy, textile, and biotechnology.
Ayalew has emphasized on the importance of a close working relationship between the University management and the State to realize faster growth and development.
Making the remarks preceding just before an inspection of the Ethiopian Maritime Training Institute workshop, and interacting with Professors and Students at BDU main campus, and visiting the Research Institute building of BDU, whose construction is nearing completion; Ayalew said the achievement of sustainable development, eradication of poverty and the facilitation rate of technology transfer in the country would easily be achieved if the relationship between the two parties continued to flourish.
Bahir Dar University is among four Universities in the Country that have been selected to impart best agricultural practices to areas where the technology and skills were required during the era of the Growth and Transformation.
According to University’s President Dr. Baylie Damtie, the University was determined to diversify its courses and programmes and focus on Water, Textile, Pedagogy, Energy, Biotechnology and Information Communication Technology as its thematic areas of research among others.
The University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr.Firew Tegegne pointed out that there was need to increase the numbers of Universities to be in tandem with the Country’s surging population which stood at 80 million suggesting that colleges would have to be transformed into Universities to address the problem

Ayalew disclosed that next years’ General meeting of the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), incumbent party and celebrations of the 7th Nations, Nationalities and Peoples National Holiday would take place at Bahir Dar. He challenged the University Management to come up with strategies that would showcase and publicise its activities with the event in mind, stressing that the University needed to work hard in improving its communication medium and channels towards capturing its targeted audiences.

In a meeting with the University management, ANRS Cabinet Members advised the University to improve its links with other stakeholders in the region and beyond in order to enhance research in education, agriculture, health, avoid duplication of projects and focus on knowledge transfer.
