The faculty is also providing high-quality and professional training and consultancy that lead to productive careers who can contribute to the development of the country. The faculty has also identified major research thematic areas in order to focus on major societal problems. Among the others, population and environment is one of the research themes. This thematic area is a nascent, multidisciplinary field which can tackle varieties of societal and environmental problems listed below.

On the gaps indicated below the works are very minor and are not consolidated. This is a fact that can indicate the need for clustering of the research on population and environment. It is also hoped it will play the guiding role for the future research act. Moreover it will reduce duplication of efforts, and wastage of limited resources.

The major research gaps on population and environment area:

Since population and environment is dynamic and diverse the area listed below are subjected to change.

1.Population and challenges to development

2.Population and urban expansion

3.Population and development nexuses

4.Fertility trends and provision of family planning

Objectives of thematic area

In light of the above concerns and issues the population and environment research thematic area has the following objectives:

  • To identify the research priority areas in population and environment,
  • To enhance staff and other collaboration on the areas of focus and
  • To foster the awareness and knowledge transfer on population and environment areas

Since the issues included are very diverse in their nature, methodological approach will be also multidimensional. The sources of data will be both primary and secondary. The analysis techniques can be both qualitative and quantitative or both. In general, the need for methodology depends on issues and objectives wanted to be achieved.
