MEd in Teaching Amharic (TEAM)

Admission Requirements

 Applicants are required to have a B.A. or BEd degree in teaching Amharic, Ethiopian Languages and Literature, English major and Amharic Minor, and Pedagogical Science Composite Amharic (Pedagogical Science-Amharic). In addition, they are expected to have 2 Years of teaching or equivalent experience. Applicants must also successfully pass an entrance examination administered as part of the applicant screening process. The office of graduate program of the University announces the exact date and place of the examination each year.

Objectives

The program will allow teachers to:

  • Equip with advanced and specialized knowledge and skill in the field
  • Develop an understanding of the linguistic theories that underpin modern approaches to language teaching.
  • Apply a variety of language teaching methodologies for diverse teaching and learning situation.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of developments in the teaching and learning of Amharic.
  • Learn a variety of techniques for planning and delivery of lesson and the management of the learning environment.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing language courses that meet the needs of particular groups of students.
  • Engage in life-long learning so as to stay relevant in the education service.
  • Continue to develop professionally and enhance their performance as classroom teachers.
  • Acquire skills for research.

Graduate Profile:

On the completion of this program participants will be able to:

  • Teach Amharic Language applying modern approaches and methods at tertiary, secondary and elementary school level.
  • Analyse and evaluate the factors that affect the Amhric language teaching - learning process.
  • Analyse and evaluate approaches and techniques used by Amharic language teachers.
  • Analyse and respond to student needs in planning and assessing language courses.
  • Evaluate teaching issues, learning needs and culture content in particular Amharic language learning environment.
  • Design and evaluate relevant syllabus to Amharic Language Teaching at all educational levels.
  • Produce relevant teaching materials for Amharic Language Teaching.
  • Design and evaluate Amharic Language tests.
  • Evaluate and make necessary modifications on teaching materials prepared to teach Amharic Language.
  • Practise and reflect on classroom teaching
