MA in Literature

Admission Requirements

The following are application requirements:

  • Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university with BA degrees in English, Amharic, Journalism & Communications, Social Anthropology, Theology, or those who majored History and minored English, or those graduated in Pd.Sc/Language Composite Programs.
  • Applicants should have a minimum of CGPA of 2.00 in undergraduate courses.
  • Applicants should submit letters of recommendation, two from their undergraduate   instructors and one from a referee who is familiar with the applicant’s professional    work.
  • Applicants should pass the entrance examination set by the Department of English,   Bahir Dar University. Applicants should present official transcripts of their academic record from each university attended, to be sent directly to the University from the issuing institutions.
  • Applicants should present a proof of financial support
  • Applicants should fulfil requirements set by the university.

 Objectives

The following are the main objectives of the graduate program in literature:

  • To produce individuals who can serve as teachers in institutions of higher learning.
  • To help teachers in improving their educational qualification and, thereby, enabling them to handle higher level courses in Ethiopian Universities.
  • To promote intensive research in the fields of language and literature.
  • To boost up the currently existing academic enthusiasm among the students and teachers of language and literature.

Graduation Requirements

A student who meets and fulfils at least the minimum requirements laid down in the regulations and whose research and examination results are judged to be of sufficient merit shall be recommended through the office of the Registrar, for approval of graduation and the award of the credentials.
