Consultative Workshop on Culture, Development

BDU:The Faculty of Humanities at Bahir Dar University has recently held a national workshop on “culture and its significance for development.”
While welcoming guests and participants, The Dean Dr.Girma Wossenie explained that the objective of the workshop was to discuss on the essence of culture and its meaning for development.
He also noted that the workshop can be a platform to exchange views on Ethiopian material and spiritual culture and to identify roles and responsibilities of experts in preserving and studying it. “The workshop will also provide tip-off to various stakeholders to initiate research activities to investigate in to the enormous cultural practice of the nation.”
In his inaugural address, BDU’s President Dr.Baylie Damtie stressed on the need of figuring out the impact of cultural practices on the overall development endeavor of the country.
He also pointed out that the workshop will enhance understanding staff and students about culture and its use in various contexts.
During the event, 13 papers were presented to participants. The function   was given a massive boost by Professor Baye Yimam, Dr.Dagnachew Assefa,Dr.Gemechu Megersa and Dr.Bayelign Tassew from Addis Ababa University and Sertsefire Sibhat from Jazz Music School.
Participants were drawn from Addis Ababa University, National Museum, Jazz Music School, Amhara National Regional State Culture, Tourism and Parks Development Bureau and Bahir Dar University.
