Students with disabilities receive life skills training

BDU:Gender Office at Bahir Dar University, in association with DKT Ethiopia-Bahir Dar University Chapter, has offered a life skills training to students with disabilities; the training was aimed at helping the disabled students make sound decisions in dealing with their day-to-day life challenges.

The Head of the President’s Office, Mr. Mihirete Walle said in his opening remarks that the training was given specifically to students with disabilities to help them build self confidence and meet their challenges with great courage.

Witnessing that disabled students experience tough challenges in higher institutions, BDU’s Director of Gender Office, Mrs. Rediet Mesfin made it clear that the purpose of the training was to equip these students with necessary life skills that help the deal with different challenges in the university. “Decision making requires understanding of both positive and negative sides of things in life.”

The training was also aimed at helping the students develop good decision making skills in the process of integrating themselves to the new environment and culture, and getting access to necessary materials that help them in the processes of learning.
