Professional and Graduate Profiles of  MA graduates of AECD
 
The graduates of adult education and community development with MA degree will have the opportunities to secure employment in a wide range of community service organizations both locally and internationally. They can work in social service agencies, crisis intervention centers, rehabilitation centers, academic institutions (colleges and universities), community resource mobilization and development centers; community counseling and services institutions; they can develop small-scale researches and consultancy projects, help to maintain productivity in agriculture sector,  secure the preventive health motto in health sector. Moreover, the grades can work as distance and e-learning coordinators and managers, capacity development organizers and managers as well as non-formal curriculum designers.  They also have the opportunity to work as instructors and researchers, training experts, development experts in academic institutions, as project officers, as program coordinators, as social service managers, policy initiators and advocators, advocator of the right of disadvantaged groups in general etc.
Therefore, following the successful completion of this MA Program, graduates will be able to:
Initiate social action processes and help to maintain balance to improve social economic cultural and environmental situations.
Plan, organize, lead and manage adult and non-formal education and community development projects, programmes and other activities at different levels.
 mobilize and utilize resources necessary for adult education and non-formal education at national, regional,  zonal,  Woreda and community levels
Design and conduct research to solve problems in the area of adult and non-formal education as well as community development and initiate ideas for social change
Design and evaluate adult and non-formal education curriculum
Initiate and propose adult and non-formal education, lifelong learning and community development policy alternatives to policy makers
Promote the idea of continuous professional development (workplace learning) and lifelong learning and thereby inculcate learning culture in various organizations and the community
 Design, organize and provide relevant and timely training to various target groups at different levels and settings
Create partnership among stakeholders at different organizations and levels for effective implementation of the adult and non-formal education and community development plans and strategies 
Supervise, assess and evaluate adult education, non-formal education, and community development programs and projects and their implementation:
Manage adult education and community development programs in business and industry contexts to enhance human resource development.
Design, coordinate and mange open, distance and e-learning programmes
Teach in different colleges and universities with similar program
Develop positive attitude towards cultural and other diversities
Graduate profile
Students who have completed an MA degree in adult education and community development are expected to have comprehensive theoretical and practical understanding on advanced level, including:
Knowledge of adult education and community development
General intellectual and life skills in adult education and community development and,
Values that equip them for employment, citizenship and lays the foundations for a lifetime continuous learning and personal development.
Thus, the graduates of this programme are expected to have the following attributes:
 Knowledge
The concepts, theories, principles, philosophy and practices of adult education, NFE, informal learning, lifelong learning, open-distance and e-learning; organization and management of development plans, community mobilization and cross cutting  issues (Gender, HIV/AIDS, Family Planning, Environmental protection etc)
The concept, theories, strategies, processes, practices, principles and values of Community Development.
The horizontal and vertical relationship of the profession with other fields
The socio –cultural behaviors of the community.
Posses critical, conceptual and reflective thinking, intellectual openness and curiosity, creativity and originality that enables them to be effective Community Development Practitioners, Adult Educators
Attitude
They develop positive attitude towards:
The philosophy of adult education.
The principles of community development.
The role of adult education and community development in promoting productivity.
The development of the attitude of self–help, self–reliance, self employment and social responsibility.
Appreciation of the values of adult education and community development (sense of equality, life experience, participatory approach, community priority, flexibility and transparency.)
 Value intellectual integrity, respect for truth and for the ethics of research and scholarly activity;
