The 34th May Annual International Conference has been conducted at the College of Education and Behavioral Science, Bahir Dar University on May 20 – 21, 2016. Themed as “Revisiting the Policy and Practices of Educational Research in Ethiopia” the conference was attended by researchers, policy makers and invited guests to discuss on the current policies and practices of educational research in Ethiopia, and put directions for future educational research undertakings with a focus on improving education quality.
While addressing an opening remark, Dr. Andargachew Moges, dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences said that the college managed to sustain one of the oldest educational conferences in the country, and made it to contribute to efforts to improve quality of education.In his speech, Dr. Andargachew stressed on the significance collaboration between educational researchers and practitioners.
Scholars from various universities in Ethiopia and abroad have presented research papers focusing on the linkage between educational research, policy and practice followed by scholarly discussions on the issues related with the presentations. This year’s conference is unique in that it comes in the time where evidence based and problem solving research has become high on the agenda in advancing education quality. Besides, the conference brought practitioner researches into the stage as a sign of the college’s commitment to establish collaboration and partnership between schools and universities.
More than 120 researchers, policy makers, practitioners and invited guests from the Ministry of Education, HERQA, teacher education colleges and universities all over the country were convened for the two day conference. Moreover, scholars from abroad were in attendance.
