Industrial Chemistry is concerned with using chemical and physical processes to transform raw materials into products that are beneficial to humanity. Industrial Chemistry as a disciple was established in 1964 at the former Bahir Dar Polytechnic Institute. The institute was a premier institute in producing highly qualified professionals with advanced diploma level. The advanced diploma level was transformed into bachelor degree in 2005. The main aim of the establishment of the BSc in Industrial Chemistry program was to bridge the professional gaps between Chemists and Chemical Engineers. The curriculum of the BSc program has been designed by including Chemistry and Engineering courses equally. The Department has also two MSc programs one in Biopolymer Science and Technology and the second is in Industrial Quality Control and Management.
