Postgraduate Continuing and Distance Education Programs

Currently, the College of Business and Economics (CoBE) hosts three postgraduate Masters Programs in the continuing and distance education. These include Masters in Accounting and Finance, Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Arts in Marketing Management, with the first two programs delivered in extension and summer modalities whereas the last only in extension modes respectively. The extension program requires three years. The summer program students are required to finish the course work in three summers and four distances in the winter. In the winter and summer semester of the third year, they have to finish the proposal of thesis/ research project, data collection and the write-up of the thesis and they have to defend and finish by the third summer semester. Here below is a short profile of each masters program of the college.

 

  1. Master of Science (MSc) in Accounting and Finance
    • Admission classification- continuing education (extension) and summer programs.
    • Admission criteria- Applicants must have BA degree in Accounting and Finance and other business related fields and, entrance exam is administered when necessary. Admission to the extension and summer programs is based on Entrance Exam results, GPA of the BA degree, BA degree’s relevance to the chosen field of study and other factors deemed appropriate. Much emphasis is given to Entrance Exam results and a student who score above 50% will pass. But the admission will be subject to space availability in each program and the number of students who scored above 50%. Number of students accepted in all programs is a minimum of 15 and maximum of 20. Entrance exams in MSC in Accounting and Finance will be composed from field specific questions (from undergraduate accounting and finance courses), English Language Proficiency Test and Mathematical Aptitude Test.
    • Program objective-The program aims to improve the knowledge, skill, research interest and carrier opportunities of the graduates thereby apply their knowledge to support the development effort of the nation.
    • Tips about the nature of courses-The program encompasses thirteen courses which are to be given in four and six semesters for regular and extension students respectively. These courses would make students advance their knowledge of accounting and finance so that graduates would conduct research in their discipline, consult and audit the development sector, design accounting & finance management information system etc. Hence students enrolled in this program will take courses on the areas of financial accounting & management, management accounting, financial markets, taxation etc   and all the courses are compulsory.
    • -A student who is eligible for graduation must: Successfully complete all the course(36 credit hours); Have a minimum CGPA of 3::00 and Successfully defend his/her thesis and score a  minimum of “Fair” grade

 

  1. Masters of Business Administration(MBA)
    • Admission classification- extension and summer programs.
    • Admission criteria- The MBA program accepts students having first degree in any fields, except language graduates and those who have successfully passed the entrance examination. Admission to the extension and summer programs is based on Entrance Exam results, GPA of the BA degree, BA degree’s relevance to the chosen field of study and other factors deemed appropriate. Much emphasis is given to Entrance Exam results and a student who score above 50% will pass. But the admission will be subject to space availability in each program and the number of students who scored above 50%. Number of students accepted in all programs is a minimum of 15 and maximum of 20. Entrance exams in MBA will be composed English Language Proficiency Test and Mathematical Aptitude Test, with no field specific questions.
    • - The program is aiming at producing graduates that have adequate knowledge, skill and attitude that are pertinent to the business and development world.
    • -There are fifteen courses being managed in program. The courses are broken in four semesters for regular and in six semesters for continuing education students. The last semester of the program constitutes one course and a project work. The course give diverse knowledge to students in the areas of managing finance, markets, human resource, projects, managing change and other relevant courses in the field of accounting are included.
    • Graduation requirement-Graduate students will be awarded the MBA degree if they: Have successfully completed all the course (35 credit hours); Have a minimum CGPA of 3::00 and Successfully defend his/her thesis and score a  minimum of “Fair” grade

Admission to the extension and summer programs is based on Entrance Exam results, GPA of the BA degree, BA degree’s relevance to the chosen field of study and other factors deemed appropriate. Much emphasis is given to Entrance Exam results and a student who score above 50% will pass. But the admission will be subject to space availability in each program and the number of students who scored above 50%.     • Program objective-The program is aiming at providing a learning opportunity and train prospects who would like to pursue their career in the field of Marketing Management. This program will get an exciting opportunity to combine business knowledge with professional expertise and develop the confidence to look forward to a career to understand, create, communicate, and deliver value and satisfaction to customers.
    • Graduation requirement-Graduate students will be awarded the MA degree in Marketing Management if they: Have a minimum CGPA of 3::00 and successfully defend his/her thesis and score a minimum of “Fair” grade.

      • Admission criteria- The MA program accepts students having first degree in marketing and other business related fields and those who have successfully passed the entrance examination. Admission to the extension and summer programs is based on Entrance Exam results, GPA of the BA degree, BA degree’s relevance to the chosen field of study and other factors deemed appropriate.
