CED'S Message
It is a great pleasure and privilege for me to share with you the remarkable growth of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Bahir Dar University. Despite being just 15 years old, the college has made impressive advancements in academic, research, clinical, and community services. We have also developed state-of-the-art facilities, technologies, infrastructures, and campus expansion projects.
Reflecting on our beginnings and our current status, I am amazed at the progress we have made. We began with just one academic program, the Doctor of Medicine, and now offer 50 distinct academic programs. Our staff has grown from a single medical doctor and secretary to over 595 academic, 518 administrative, and 633 non-academic hospital clinical staff. Our focus on comptency-based high-quality education has led to increased student admission capacity and impactful contributions from our alumni in the field of medicine, health sciences, and public health.
In terms of research, we have made significant strides in conducting problem-solving studies and publishing in reputable journals to advance scientific knowledge and contribute to better healthcare practices and policies. The college has been contributing over 30% of the research outputs of the University and thereby increasing its regional and international visibility.
Our clinical and community services have also seen tremendous progress. Our specialist and subspecialist doctors at the Tibebe Ghion Specialized Hospital provide advanced clinical services, and our students and staff actively engage in providing much-needed healthcare services to the community through local and international partnerships.
The college has also made substantial investments in state-of-the-art facilities and technologies (including the latest Oxyen Plant, 128 Slice CT-Scan and 3T MRI) to ensure excellence in academic, research, and clinical practices.
As the Chief Executive Director, I am thrilled by the progress achieved and look forward to facing new challenges and opportunities. I am confident that we will continue to transform the college into a leading multi campus institution in academic, research, clinical, and community services.
I am proud to invite you to read our factbook recounting our college’s achievements and contributions in detail.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
