College of Medicine and Health Science’s Gender Office celebrates Mother’s Day

Gender Office at College of Medicine and Health Science (CMHS) in collaboration with Bahir Dar University (BDU) Students’ Council jointly has organized the Mother’s Day event at FelegeHiwot Campus of CMHS.

Ms.Mintiwab made an opening speech from BDU Gender Office Directorate.In her opening remark, she appreciated what the college is doing with regard to Female staff particiaption in such occasions.
The modern Mother’s Day began in the United States, at the initiative of Ann Reevens Jarvis in the early 20th century. It was first celebrated in 1908, when Ann Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at West Virginia.

In her speech Sr. Azezu Asres said that since mothers were dying of hemorrhage due to blood lose during delivery, stressed the need of donating blood as we celebrate this annual Day.

Poem that skirted around motherhoodwas presented by Mr. Fentahun Fikadiefrom Amhara region Midwives Association. At the same event, Ms. EmitaTesema, a mother of five and works at students’ café for many years, was recognized as successful mother in the college. In her acceptance speech, she shared all her personal experiences, the ups and downs of she passed through and eventually how she emerged victorious as a mother

While closing the function, Sr. Eden Amsalu on her part stressed that motherhood should be considered as a full time job, after telling a real scenario which she came up with at one moment.

Students from different departments of CMHS, academic staff and administrative staffs were in attendance.
