Achievements on Satellite data reception

Currently, BDU is receiving raw data from Metosat Second Generation (MSG) satellites every 15 minutes in 12 spectral bands.

Eight of the channels are in the thermal infrared; three in visible and one in near infrared. MSG allows meteorologists to analyze the characteristics of atmospheric air masses making it possible to reconstruct a three-dimensional view of the atmosphere. And also we are receiving processed data from other sources such as Satellite Application Facilities (SAFs) and Meteorological Product Extraction Facility (MPEF).

Our satellite data reception center will be the source of time series archived data for the decision-makers and researchers in the Blue Nile basin. In the near future the center will provide processed and raw data to the sectors via a web portal for professionals who may wish to use the data for environmental monitoring and research tasks.
